Unusual and Interesting photos

Unusual and Interesting photos
Part 1
I think that Rhum's work is interesting and makes me think that there is a earthquake. The photo looks as if it is in motion. I think that Rhum took multiple pictures of this photograph but he took each at different angles and merged them all together.
I think if I did photographs like this I would do the Texas State Capitol Building or the Frost Bank. I would choose these builds because they are well known by most people who live in Austin, Tx. The Texas State Capitol Building and Frost Bank are both located downtown Austin.

Here is pictures of both of them:

Texas State Capitol Building

Frost Bank
If I were to choose these buildings I think I would have easy access because they are both in a populated environment and the Capitol is visited daily by secretaries, lawyers, and tourists. The Frost Bank would probably have easy access as well because it is in an area downtown were you can walk by it with ease and not worry about security guards or police.

This is my favorite photo by Christian Rhum because it has a lot of movement and the picture makes me think there is an earthquake or some shaking movement. I also like the color in this photograph and that there is more than just a building "moving" like his other photographs.

Part 2

Part 3

3 things I think photographers should always remember to do is:

The first thing is find good lighting, some photographs can be good but then the scene is too dark, always make sure your photograph is well lit.
Another thing photographers should always remember is to seek out new angles, take the same photograph from different angles.
The third thing for photographers to remember is, if you are taking a portrait of a person make sure to have the person show emotion. Emotion can show the type of scene you are trying to create and the viewer can easily understand the topic of emotion. (ex. happy, sad, mad, etc)

Cafe At Night by Vincent Van Gogh

I think the photograph did because the photograph shows meaning to them. This photograph shows the mother and child(on left), the photo is important to the mother because it is the first photograph (most likely) of her and her child. The photograph on the right shows the mother, father, and child, and I think it shows meaning to it as well because it was important to remember the first memory with their child.

I think a painting that would influence me would this one (painting below) because it shows emotion and it looks like the people in the painting are quiet and that it is very calm were they are. I think this painting would influence me to find those quiet moments and capture them to create a bigger meaning.

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams was born on February 20, 1902 in San Francisco, California. He grew to love nature, he'd play in the sand dunes beyond the Golden Gate Bridge and got photographic inspiration from the beautiful scenery around him. He went to Yosemite  National Park and was transfixed on the beauty of the park and when he was 17 he got a job there as a custodian. He was so amazed with the beauty, he often went up to the mountains accompanied by a mule laden with photographic gear and supplies. He soon become the park's official photographer and that's how he had a early success as a photographer. as he was growing up even though he had photography he went to school as well, he was dismissed from schools for bad behavior and then had private tutors and family members help teach him since he was 12. He also taught himself piano while he lived at home, it became a early passion besides photography.
In 1928, Adams married Virginia Best, the daughter of the Best's studio proprietor. Adams enjoyed photography and would take it anywhere he'd go, in 1941 right before Pearl Harbor happened, he shot a photo, "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico". In 1968, he was awarded the Conservation Service Award, the Interior Department's highest civilian honor. In 1980, Adams recieved the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his photography that showed nature's most beautiful moments and the most beautiful spots on Earth. Even though he photography was extraordinary he was still criticized for not including people in his photography. Ansel Adams died on April 22, 1984 because a heart attack at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey, California at the age 84.

Academic Shoot Review

Academic Shoot Review

The Story

I think this photograph tells the best story. It shows these people in it cared and wanted to help out the less unfortunate and give back to them. I think this photo is really sweet and can make people smile.
Action and Emotion
I think the action in this photograph is the lab experiment the two girls are doing and the emotion is their reaction to the action. Their emotion looked happy or surprised. I think this photo is cool because it shows a cause and effect sort of situation which is cool.

Filling the Frame
The frame is filled with the students in the classroom that are doing a lab experiment. I like that this photograph shows action. The action is the foggy lab experiment by all the students hands.

My favorite photograph either is "The Man in the Mirror" or "The Boy on the tightrope"(the one with the pretty sunset). I would choose "The Man in the Mirror" because the photograph is really cool and I like the colors and the rule of photography in this photograph is framing. I also like this photo because there is so much to look at in this photograph and its really cool.

I think a place I can take photos to replicate this photograph would be a mirror or window. The classroom I'd like to visit/take photos is the Art Room. I think I'll work on my angles and lighting.

Photo Manipulation

1. I think that photo manipulation is stupid, most photographers that committed photo manipulation were usually caught in the end. Photo manipulation is not good if you change the whole photo, but is good if you are just adding a touch up.

2. I think this type of photo editing is unethical and it can be an embarrassment if you were to be found out. I think that photographers should stop photo editing so much and maybe edit only brightness or saturation in a photograph even if it is their photograph.

3.

 a-

I think this photograph is unethical because Bill Clinton and Fidel Castro meet but there was no photographer on the scene so this photograph was photo shopped to look as if there were photographers there and that they were taking photographs. I think this type of photo manipulation should be stopped because if they had done something else like two world enemies that could of caused an uproar and caused an outbreak of protest or fights and that would not be good.

b-

I think this photograph is least unethical just because the photographer had only changed the darkness of the photograph, unlike the photo manipulation before were they photoshopped Bill Clinton and Fidel Castro together. I think this photograph was not to heavily manipulated so I think this is the least unethical photograph. I also think this because sense it is only the darkness it is not putting anyone in trouble and does not offend anyone.

Post shoot reflection

1. I faced problems like, the camera not getting in focus, bad lighting, angles, and not being able to find an example of the topic.

2. I felt myself wanting the photo always in focus and I had to have the camera at the angle I wanted.

3. I think changing angles, if I did the assignment again I'd prefer doing different topics.

4. I would keep the topic "happy" because that topic I believe is generally enjoying doing. The whole time I was taking photos for "happy" it made me smile  because of other people's happy faces and so I would like to do that topic again.

5. While I took photographs I achieved "The Rule of Thirds" in two photos and I think I might of achieved balance in one photograph.

6. I would only like to do the topic "happy" again because it makes me happier seeing smiling faces then seeing a square hallway or a plant. I think they're could of been happier topics instead of sorta boring ones like "metal".

Simplicity:
I chose this photo because  i think the background is very simple and it focuses on what the photographer wanted to capture.

The Rule of Thirds:
I chose this photo because it looks like the fireman still has room to walk and he is always in the rule of thirds in this photographer.

Lines:
I chose this photo because there is a lot of lines and it shows the composition "line" in it.
Balance:
I chose this photo because I think this photograph has a nice balance, there is a lot of triangle shapes in this photo.

Avoiding Mergers:
This photographer did not do very good at taking this photo, they did not include all of the women's body on the right side and you can slightly see the camera's shadow.

"THE CAMERA"

1. Explain the “camera obscura” effect. How is it achieved?

The hole acted like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark chamber.

2. What invention during the 17th Century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?

The invention created in the 17th Century was improved when Issac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected the understanding of optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.

3. What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?

The first parts created to the first modern camera was film.

4. What do modern digital cameras have in common with Niepce’s camera?

They both have glass lens.

5. What do digital cameras use to capture an image?

Light passes through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film.

"CAMERA MODES"

6. What is the difference between the Auto Mode and the Program mode?

The Auto Mode completely controls the flash and exposure while Program Mode has auto-assist and you just point and shoot.

7. What is Portrait Mode used for? How does it work?

Portrait mode attempts to blur out the background.  (camera will try to use the fastest available lens setting; aperture)

8. What is Sports Mode used for? How does it work?

Sports Mode tries to freeze the motion. (camera will try to use the highest shutter speed possible)

"THE HALF PRESS"

9. Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?

You half press the trigger button to focus the image.

"CONTROLLING FLASH"

10. What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?

This symbol means disabled flash. When the lighting is bright.

11. What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
This symbol means Auto-Flash and you'd use this when the lighting is dark.

"INTRO TO EXPOSURE"

12. What happens to your photo if there is too much light?

The photo will look washed out.

13. What happens to your photo if there is not enough light?

The photo will be too dark.

"THE UNIVERSAL STOP"

14. What's a "stop"?
The term "stop" is used in photography to represent a relative change in lighting.

15. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are two suns instead of one?
One

16. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are four suns instead of two?
Two

"SHUTTERS AND APERTURE"

17. What affect does a longer shutter speed of have?
More light

18. What affect does a shorter shutter speed have?

Less light

19. What does the aperture control?

It controls the F-Stop and the F-Stop controls light.

20. When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of ligh
t?

By having longer exposures it allows there to be more light.
